How people shop for comics and manga
Nobody buys volume 7 without knowing where volumes 1 to 6 are. Readers come back for the next one, look for the gap in their collection and pick up a new series because the cover caught their eye. A flat product grid makes all of that harder.
Whatever tools you use, a comic book store on Shopify works better with:
- One collection per series, plus broader ones such as Shonen, Superheroes or Graphic novels.
- Consistent titles with the volume number, written the same way every time (Vol. 01, Vol. 02…), so lists sort cleanly.
- Sharp, front-facing cover images. For comics the cover is the product page.

An honest note: it's built for books
InShelf was designed for bookstores. Every product on a shelf is shown as a book, and any product with a cover image works. That fits manga volumes, trade paperbacks, graphic novels and collected editions naturally. Each volume gets its spine from its own cover, so a series with a consistent cover design reads as a matching row on the shelf, much like it does in a physical shop.
Figures, posters, card games or blind boxes would also appear as books, which looks odd. Leave those collections out or remove individual products; they stay in your regular store. Your store's search keeps working as usual; there's no search inside the bookshelf yet.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell manga and comics on Shopify?
Yes. Each volume or issue is a product with its cover and price, and series work well as collections. Our guide on selling books on Shopify applies just as well to comics.
Does it work with single issues, not just volumes?
Any product with a cover image becomes a book on the shelf, so single issues work too. Keep in mind they're drawn as books, like everything else on the shelf.
Can I show one series on its own page?
Yes. The frameless bookshelf block can show a single shelf inside any section of your theme, for example on a series landing page.
Will a big catalog slow my store down?
The 3D engine only downloads when someone opens the bookshelf, or once the page has finished loading if it has a bookshelf block. On mobile the scene is lighter.
Is the bookshelf translated for my customers?
Yes. The bookshelf in your store is available in 15 languages.
